I must confess that I am more of a savoury person. I would rather eat a sandwich after a meal than dessert – when will this become acceptable? But life is just too sad without a little sweet indulgence so here is a cake that is delicately sweetened by honey, livened up by some zesty lime, full of fresh, tangy apples and crowned with a creamy natural yoghurt.Read More
I remember cold winter mornings before school when the only reason I could be persuaded to get out of my warm bed was the smell of the toast. My mom can make magic out of any ingredient and I would lie there trying to guess what topping we would be treated to that day. I was almost always the last out of bed and the toast almost always ended up with me in the car, on my lap while I swapped my sheepskin slippers for school shoes. It was always the best part of the morning – me, my toast and my dad singing silly songs.
Although there are few things that beat good old toast with butter, what I love about toast is that everything tastes good on it! Here are three quick, easy and delicious toast-topping ideas.Read More
Harvest bowls are the new trendy thing in healthy eating and considering my family’s green-leaning, are right up my alley. The best part is they are so simple. You choose a bunch of your favourite crunchy salad and veg, add a grain, some delicious protein, toss them all into a bowl and top with a juicy dressing. Quick, easy, super tasty and healthy to boot!Read More
With the weather heating up and it being Heritage (read: BRAAI) month, us South Africans are all getting that wonderful, delirious, warm-summer-air, late-nights-outside-by-the-fire, weekends-away-at-the-sea kinda feeling. At the centre of this most delicious summer feeling is BRAAING – chops, steak, wors, chicken flatties, whole fish, crayfish, potjies, braaibroodjies - anything cooked on the fire and all the yummy sides we eat with it all!Read More
This really yummy creation happened completely by accident! I was baking my Spicy Apple, Cinnamon & Nut Cake for a bunch of friends for tea, got far too carried away in conversation (this happens often) and completely forgot about my cake! Luckily it didn't burn, but it had completely lost all its wonderful soft moistness that makes it so perfectly delicious. I was devastated as I HATE wasting anything, especially the possibility of a yummy slice of cake. So nobody got cake with their tea and I tossed and turned most of that night.Read More
Sweet Berry, Hazelnut & Dark Chocolate Brioche Swirl. This is the kind of recipe that your friends will go OOOH and AAAH and WOW! These fresh, light herby fritters are one of my go-to foods for a quick, tasty meal. The thing I absolutely love about this recipe is that it is so versatile. You can have these for breakfast, lunch, brunch, dinner or even a midnight snack! Leave out the cheese for a healthier version (but be warned: the cheese makes them SO tasty!) Serve on its own as a lovely, light meal or top with a poached egg, some spicy chicken breasts or ostrich kebabs fresh off the braai!Read More
